Earlier today, Kombiz Lavasany posted a story on Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson “coming alive” with an announcement that he will be a “familiar face” in Iowa, vowing weekly visits.
But this quote was too good to pass up.
Thompson said he’d develop a field organization and a grass-roots campaign like, as he put it: “you haven’t seen before.”
(Post your condescending remarks in the comments.)
Thompson, a former Health and Human Services secretary added to the growing conservative candidate taxonomy by referring to himself as a “grassroots conservative.”
So to recap:
- California Rep. Duncan Hunter — “Valley Forge Republican.”
- Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback — “Full-Scale Conservative.”
- Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee — “True Conservative.”
- Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson — “Grassroots Conservative.”
- With Governors Frank Keating (Oklahoma) and James Gilmore (Virginia) fighting over the rights to “Reagan Conservative.”
Although, Gilmore did use the phrase “committed conservative” last month so hope-hope!

[...] With Keating’s decision not to run for the Republican nomination, the term “Reagan conservative” now defaults to former Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore until further notice. [...]

Something to say?

My guess is that Thompson will campaign like he’s never campaigned before – in the literal sense.
