Kansas Senator Sam Brownback received the endorsement of a top abortion opponent in Iowa. Kim Lehman is the head of the Iowa Right-to-Life since 2000 and has decided to throw the weight of her support behind Brownback.

In an apparent shot at the historically moderate front-runners — former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Arizona Senator John McCain, and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney — she points to Brownback’s record on life issues.

“While other candidates are in the process of defining and refining their position at the start of this campaign, Senator Brownback has been principled, consistent and unwavering in his support for the right to life,” she told the Associated Press.

Brownback is expected to formally announce his candidacy on January 20.
