Outspoken critic of the Bush administration’s handling of the war in Iraq, Senator Chuck Hagel of Nebraska, will make a decision on a possible 2008 White House bid “soon.”

From CNN’s Political Ticker:

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska, an outspoken Republican critic of the war in Iraq, told CNN Wednesday he will decide on whether to wage a presidential run soon.

“I’ll let you know, Wolf — I’ve got to make a decision soon,” Hagel told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer. “I will make that decision.”

I certainly hope Senator Hagel decides to run.

Charlie, we get it. You like Hagel. I like Hagel too and I hope he runs. I think he adds something to the Republican field that no one else can: principle without obligation. His general lack of support in the far right of the caucus gives him the freedom to speak his mind – he’s not beholden to anyone.

I like principled politicians, even if they don’t share my principles. That’s why the two guys I’m pulling for the most are Brownback and Hagel – two very different Republicans, both of whom are very principled and sincere.

Something to say?
