Erick Erickson, CEO of the Republican superblog RedState, isn’t impressed with the current crop of Republican presidential candidates.
They all suck. Let’s just admit it. Every one of the thus far announced Republican candidates for President sucks. From the lecherous adulterer to the egomaniacal nut job to the flip-flopping opportunist with the perfect hair to the guy who hates brown people to the guy we’ve never heard of to the guy who has a better chance of getting hit by a meteor while being consumed by a blue whale being struck by lightening.
They all suck. (Well, okay, Brownback doesn’t suck at all, but I perceive no viability for his candidacy.)
Erickson goes on to say that he wants Newt Gingrich to run, though he doesn’t think he can win. Gingrich, he says, can be a candidate that clearly articulates conservative values and set the field for a much strong nominee in 2012 (Erickson thinks it will be now Rep. Bobby Jindal, who he thinks will be governor of Louisiana at the time of his presidential run).
I’ll admit that as a Democrat no one in the Republican field scares me much in the general election (I used to be scared of McCain). But my grounds for thinking little of these candidates is based on that of a liberal activist. Erickson is talking about the people who would represent him and his party. Granted, I could make a case that all of the current Democratic contenders suck, though my argument would come more along lines of the pathology of apologizing for their political beliefs.
One last thing. I love Erickson’s description of McCain as an “egomaniacal nut job.”

[...] The day after the 2006 midterm elections, Limbaugh proclaimed that he was “liberated” by the defeat of the Republican-controlled Congress because he, admittedly, no longer had to “carry the water” for “people who I don’t think deserve having their water carried.” He justified lying to his audience because the “stakes were high.” Limbaugh joins RedState in proclaiming, “They all suck.” [...]
[...] Finally, The Right’s Field has a lengthy discussion of conservative unrest with the current field of Republican candidates. For example: Limbaugh joins RedState in proclaiming, “They all suck.” [...]
the conservative and christian bases need to realize that it is time for a change. the reason no true hard right conservative is in the field is because they all lost in 06, like George Allen and Rick Santorum. Jeb Bush would be the frontrunner and likely winner if his last name were “Smith”, but since its not keep an eye on him for VP. Conservatives need to realize there is something worse then a moderate republican: President Hillary!!! 08 is too important a year and this period in our history is too grave to allow Hillary to win out of spite for someone who you disagree with on social issues. Social issues are social because they are soft and meaningless in our overall national interest. security, victory, and strength are what we need, no ifs, ands, or buts. We need the candidate that can win, and for us to pass up the chance of a Republican who can win NY, NJ, PA, OH, and Mich. would be a huge mistake. We must go with a moderate, if only to scoop the independents back from Clinton and Obama. Either way, Clinton/Obama, Clinton/Edwards, are very left tickets, and the Republicans will be viewed as the moderate middle with Giuliani at the head. But not to worry religious right, we can plunk in Jeb Bush to keep the hard right and bible belt in one peace, and to ensure a conservative future. Swallow your pride, realize we are not the majority right now, and start thinking like a minority party that wants to win first, think second. Giuliani can deliver, and if you had been to NY pre-1993, you would know he can govern too. For all his faults, he left that city(and its more then a city its one of the largest gov’ts in the country and dwarfs many states) in far better shape then the one he inheritted. He stood strong in our darkest hour and didn’t flinch, showing strong leadership. And he can pronounce the word “nuclear” correctly. Don’t worry about gay marriage, because he is going to leave it up to the states, like a Republican should. Don’t worry about abortion, because he will appoint the same judges Bush or Reagan would have appointed. Worry about winning, and the look on the Clintons’ faces when the lose in 2008, they’re reign in the DNC over, and Hillary realizes she stayed with Bill and it was for nothing! Rudy will keep us the White House, so be smart, and go with the lesser of two evils. Your consolation prize is this: after him you get Bush 3, so eat that Iran!
What can you expect from a ruling elite that is owned by the corporate empire? They all suck, Democrats and Republicans. The 2008 election is a joke. Every asshole that is running is so fucking ludicrous it is sickening. More bullshit piled on top of bullshit. Please look into joining the Communist Party, I did and was surprised how much they are working to bring America back to Americans! Remember now, who is the greatest terrorist nation? America!
Something to say?

Erickson is completely wrong on ol’ Newt.
Gingrich is a capital-a Asshole. Nobody outside of Cheney and the basement Cheetoh-chewers actually likes him, he wouldn’t be capable of doing anything positive in the general elections.
I hope they do try to run Gingrich. His presidential run would be another nail in the coffin of viable conservative politics as we would be once again dragged through the muck of Newt’s personal life (serial divorces, served divorce papers to one of his wives _in the hospital_, the church had to take up a collection for his ex-wife and children…), let alone his failures in government.
They really need a new Reagan. Unfortunately, all the new Reagans are Democratic.
