My colleague Kombiz Lavasany pointed out that ‘08 hopefuls in the Republican Party will shock us with new ways to move to the right. While Senators John McCain (R-Arizona), Sam Brownback (R-Kansas) and Chuck Hagel (R-Nebraska) believe the minimum wage should not exist, Congressman Tom Tancredo is close behind.

Rep. Tancredo (R-Littleton, Colo.) believes that the Congressional Black and Hispanic caucuses should be abolished, renewing a call he made four years ago.

“It is utterly hypocritical for Congress to extol the virtues of a colorblind society while officially sanctioning caucuses that are based solely on race,” said the Colorado Republican, who is most widely known as a vocal critic of illegal immigration.

Colorblind, or colorless, Congressman?

We will never be able to win in the clash of civilizations, if we don’t know who we are. If Western civilization succumbs to the siren song of multiculturalism, I believe we’re finished.

Tancredo continued with the dog-and-pony show:

“If we are serious about achieving the goal of a colorblind society, Congress should lead by example and end these divisive, race-based caucuses,” said Tancredo, who is scheduled pitch his longshot presidential bid this weekend in New Hampshire.

Divisive? This is divisive:

Look at what has happened to Miami,” the WorldNetDaily quotes Tancredo as saying in an interview. “It has become a Third World country. You just pick it up and take it and move it someplace. You would never know you’re in the United States of America. You would certainly say you’re in a Third World country.” [emphasis added]

For a full list of Congressional Caucuses, here’s a list from the 109th Congress.

Really solid post Matt. Nothing like making absurd statements stand out clearly in their absurdity to rebut racists like Tancredo.

Something to say?
