Free ride? I don't think so. Minor points? The media accused him of being the Manchurian Candidate for the "Islamofacists." If you think the press accusing Obama of being a traitor is a "free ride," you're the deluded one.

As for Cox: Threatened by him? Again, you're kidding yourself. His e-newsletter is a joke and pure fodder.

If you don't think Obama has gotten a free ride from the media, you're deluding yourselves.

These minor points you raise in your post are PATHETIC. He has been ballyhooed from the beginning for one reason and one reason only: His race. The media are wetting themselves over the possibility of a black president, and the free ride has been astounding and obvious to all observers.

"Obamamania" is a media creation, and you are blind if you deny it.

As for Cox, he's a nobody with no chance of winning, but you're talking about him, so you must be threatened by him.

[...] It’s possible that the shift in commitment can be explained by the proximity of the 2008 elections. As the election nears voters are hearing more about candidates they hadn’t thought about (or even heard of) before. Everyone’s commitment becomes plastic and voters enter a period where they’re willing to be persuaded in a new direction. This would explain the shift from hard support to soft support, but does it account for the shift from soft support to non-support? That is, if someone is only weakly supporting a candidate does open-mindedness account for their movement away from that support? [...]

And by the way here is my opinion on this whole matter....

Obama has received so much news good and bad the media has made him the Democratic superstar. For all of the bad things about him you hear about him, there are three good things about him or news involving him.

Cox deserves the time of day! I saw him on MSNBC a while ago talking about economics, so certainly he deserves the time of day to speak about his politics!

In my opinion anyone should have a chance and everyone deserves a moment of anyone’s time if they have something important to say.

John Cox is tough, he will perform well in the next year or so. And I encourage all to visit Cox2008.com and see what all this talk is about.

If the only people I can vote for are those who lie, cheat and steal (Like McCain and Rudy) then count me out. I believe everyone here has the right to choose a candidate that has good ideas no matter who Matt O. says can or cannot win!

A Petition to Take Back the Republican Party from the Career Politicians
We, the undersigned, call for a return of our beloved Republican Party to the people, and away from the reign of career politicians who have:

Spent our nation into a mountain of debt, in a vain attempt to out-spend the Democrats or to appear “compassionate” in the face of media pressure,
Failed to address our urgent immigration control crisis as our nation’s wages are lowered by those who break the law,
Continued to wallow in a corrupt and failed system of taxation, using the sale of tax loopholes to gain campaign contributions
Valued celebrity over statesmanship and style over substantive changes that would have actually made our lives better
Voted to vastly increase the size and reach of government with Medicare Part D and No Child Left Behind, abandoning conservative, free market principles.
We stand together and call for fundamental tax reform, real immigration control that respects our laws, more competition, and a return to statesmanship in our political system.

[...] The Right’s Field has some on info on the Cox campaign and their assertions that the media is trying to elect Obama: The campaign for John Cox, the Illinois Republican, sent out a plea to supporters in the latest e-newsletter assailing the media as “liberal” in a less than subtle way. The media is very excited about pushing the candidacy of Barack Obama because he is clearly “one of them” i.e. a liberal. This should come as no surprise to anyone, but it does underline one of the fundamental problems with the media in this country. [...]
