Rawstory has the goods on a new group of veterans who are going to attempt to take down John McCain.
Two familiar faces will soon be dogging Senator John McCain on the campaign trail, as activist Vietnam Veterans Jerry Kiley and Ted Sampley resume a campaign they have conducted for years against the Arizona Republican and former prisoner of war.
…
They see McCain as an apologist for Vietnam’s Communist government who sold out fellow POWs and servicemen missing in action from America’s lengthy war in Southeast Asia.
“We know him best because we’ve dealt with him over the years, and we know how he’s acted,” Kiley said. “We’re taking no salaries, we do this voluntarily, and every penny will go into defeating him.”
It should be noted that the entire Republican establishment spent most of 2004 legitimizing these kinds of attacks against John Kerry and it’s hard to see how Repbublicans and Republican opinion orgs like Fox News (Rush, O’Reilly) can downplay these vets after they spent so much time parlaying these attacks against John Kerry.
Kiley will be working with Sampley, who produces the newspaper and website US Veteran Dispatch and served in the Army in Vietnam. The two worked together on the website Vietnam Veterans Against John Kerry, which they claim registered 20 million hits in 2004. He also speaks harshly of McCain on POW/MIA issues.
Want to see the crazy shit the Bush/Cheney and the GOP legitimized in ‘04, take a look at their previous website against John Kerry. Completely crazy.
As far as the Republican candidate whom the anti-McCain vets support; Duncan Hunter
“I’m in favor of Duncan Hunter,” he explained. “He’s going to have an interesting situation because he has to distance himself from McCain, because Veterans are not going to accept [the Senator].”
Hunter’s campaign accepted the endorsement willingly, though his spokesman wasn’t aware of Sampley’s praise for the congressman.
Is there a chance that the anti-McCain vets won’t have any impact in ‘08 against McCain? Sure, without media coverage they could just be a fringe website on the web but if they can get traction in the media they could be effective because their message is one that conservatives were willing to accept willingly in 2004. The culture war is as much about Vietnam and hippies as it is about abortion and gays and if Kiley and Sampley can tie these issues to Conservatives distrust of McCain over campaign finance reform and immigration they could have an impact in places like Iowa and South Carolina.

Gotta love it. The Republicans are now swiftboating each other.

Brilliant.
…Adding, that this is just as shameful as what John Kerry faced. The people that orchestrate this – people like Karl Rove and Sam Fox – are cowards.
What you all know about this is just what you have had fed to you by McCain and Kerry.
What would you say if there were 19 POWs who were never listed as such and in the early 1990’s Vietnam admitted to having captured them alive and holding them into captivity?
Well, it’s true and Kerry and McCain made sure these findings and others like it were buried.

If you want the documents, I would be happy to e-mail them to you.
You want to know the truth about Kerry, McCain and the POW/MIA Issue? Ask the families of the men who are still missing, no one knows better than they do.
The truth can be a frightening thing ….
Huh-larious! Guess the GOP just figured out what the expression, “ride the tiger” means.
I live in Laos, which America dropped 2 million tons of bombs on from 1964-1972, thus making it the most bombed country in history. More than was dropped on Germany and Japan combined during WWII. None of this was legal under treaties signed by America.
Today farmers and children, mainly children, continue to die at the rate of 5-10 per week due to UXO. However I am always amazed that no one is ever bitter towards my presence here, in fact just the opposite.
I have to admit I find all the talk over Kerry and McCain pointless. How about a discussion of what America owes for the damage it did? How about America admits that they committed crimes and will work to prevent them in the future?
Of course I also would like to see the MIA’s accounted for. There are constantly American men and women here working along with the Lao government (still communist and totalitarian) to search for remains. Of course with 300,000 Vietnamese MIA’s, most of the bones found our their’s.
Something to say?

“I served with John McCain…”
“… he was not captured in Hanoi.”
“He’s been lying about his ailments as a result of torture he received in North Vietnam.”
