Congressman Ron Paul (R-Surfside, Tex.) is expected to formally announce his candidacy on C-SPAN today. Via Hotline:
Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX), “a fierce critic of the Iraq war, formally will declare his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination Monday when he appears as a guest on a C-SPAN call-in program,” the AP reports.
“This will be Paul’s second try for the White House. He was the Libertarian nominee for president in 1988.”

The irony is that Hagel only differs with his party on the war (which Paul does too), yet Paul holds genuinely libertarian principles that put him at odds with the GOP on many issues, while Hagel votes with Bush more than any other Republican.
Something to say?

And yet cablenews was all about Hagel’s non-event today. I think Hagel is TradMed’s new “maverick” now that McCain’s true colors are exposed: unprincipled hack.
