Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney named Jason Rose as his state director for Arizona.

Dan Nowicki reports for the Arizona Republic’s blog:

Rose is the local public relations consultant who last year helped generate national buzz for the provocative Pink Taco restaurant in Scottsdale. Scottsdale Mayor Mary Manross denounced the eatery’s name, which is a slang term for vagina (as well as the name of a dish on the menu).

“I don’t appreciate anything that offends more than half the population,” Manross told The Arizona Republic in April. [original emphasis]

Romney’s honorary chairman, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, was involved in the publicizing “Mexican food with attitude.” Nowicki writes:

Among the publicity stunts associated with the Pink Taco was its $30 million offer to buy the naming rights for the Arizona Cardinals’ new football stadium in Glendale. (Cardinals management passed on it.) And then there was the “pink underwear” promotion with Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who, by the way, is Romney’s honorary Arizona chairman and a longtime associate of Rose’s. Check out Arpaio on the job… for Pink Taco.

(Porn star Jenna Jameson was there, too.)

Check out how Rose publicized the hiring of former Arizona Republic reporter, Robbie Sherwood, to his publicist firm, in the Arizona Capitol Times:

Hey, gotta love Romney’s efforts to reach out to the “delightfully tacky, yet unrefined” crowd.

Something to say?
