This post on the Brownback blog is a really nice rebuke of Romney from the right. Despite all the doubts of conservatism you’re not really seeing enough of this kind of campaigning from Republicans. Surely everyone knows that Romney is only finding his conservatism recently and that Giuliani isn’t actually a social conservative but this type of refutation of more socially moderate beliefs is actually new in the Repbulican primary this year.
Up till now we’ve seen videos of Romney saying moderate things or Giuliani saying socially liberal things and we’ve known that they’re out of step with the Republican base. But it’s good to see Repub’s own up to the reasoning behind their conservatism and why Romney is off base. Pace a General in the army should be allowed to gay bash because having to hold back on gay bashing is political correctness run amok. Good for Brownback’s team for drawing the distinction.
In the wake of the recent furor over General Pace’s remarks, Mitt Romney has revealed that he is no social conservative. Pace was criticized, if you recall, for saying aloud the fairly simple proposition that homosexual acts are immoral, which is something that most social conservatives believe. While Sam Brownback was circulating a letter of support for General Pace, Mitt Romney was busy saying that General Pace’s comments were “inappropriate for public discourse.” Take a moment to let that sink in. Governor Romney didn’t say that he disagreed with General Pace, or that other people might disagree with General Pace, he said that General Pace’s thoughts were inappropriate topics for public conversation for someone employed by the government. How someone could make such a statement on the one hand, and at the same time call themselves a social conservative.

True that his comments did not seem like those that come from a social conservative.
However,a more global point: brownback can’t win a general election and the issue that matters most to social conservatives is conservative judges on the SC. If we choose someone like brownback who won’t win, that means hillary or obama will be picking probably at least two justices which will keep the court in limbo.
Mccain i trust the least on this issue. Guliani it is hard to believer would pick someone who goes agaisnt his proven believes. romnehy on the other hand has a proven track record on the issues. He is trying to get elected. I think he can win the election and I feel most comfortable with him on that issue.
He will pick conservative judges and he will revitalize the conservative movement. The man is crazy competent and a great communicator.
Something to say?

Yeah this is a very interesting and surprisingly under-reported line of the campaign. There are people with very solid conservative credentials who stand as alternatives to the Big Three. Yes, they’re much further back in the polls, but if they start making direct attacks on the front-runners, they will likely gain traction.
