On yesterday’s Hardball, Chris Matthews went OFF on the new conservatism and on Rudy in particular for empowering terrorists by cowing to them. I’d first read about it over at dday (where I’m subbing this weekend) but you really got to see it to appreciate it (h/t to TPM.)

some more of that fair and unbiased news coverage from the matthews/olbermann crowd at msnbc….nice

you clearly don’t watch Hardball.

every day…..and he has said some positive things about rudy in the past…probably why olbermann was sent out to bash rudy with one of his ’special ed comments’. matthews was probably fed the line from abrams. amazing that a network whose prime time cornerstones are a former jimmy carter/tip o’neill employee followed by a blue blog hack has the nerve to question fox news’ bias.

then you know you can’t use the liberal media trope with matthews because which party or issue he’s going to side with changes with the wind, often depending on who his guest is. if one day he’s fellating tom delay, you can’t then turn around and accuse him of having liberal bias, it’s intellectually dishonest. often he just appears to be a suck-up but I actually think he’s a pretty good arbiter of mainstream American reaction to things (with some exceptions), for better or worse. but I guess the fact that he worked for a Democrat will always disqualify him from being considered anything other than a lefty, which doesn’t really explain the fact that he voted for Bush in 2000, but I guess that’s just a pesky inconvenient fact.

at least matthews is listed as a commentator, olbermann is listed as a news anchor, which is a disgrace and a joke.

yeah, I wouldn’t call Olbermann an anchor. I agree with you there. he’s an editorialist. but why shouldn’t there be ONE liberal one on cable news to balance out all the other right-leaning ones? sheesh!

but he claims to not be liberal, says he calls it down the middle, says he is unbiased, news asnchor. o’reilly doesnt claim to be an unbiased news anchor, and he lets liberals on his show to defend themselves i.e. michael moore, sheehan, donahue, john kerry etc. olbermann NEVER has anyone that he critizes with him on the show, never even someone who disagrees with him.

I know I was just talking to someone about that. I said that’s why I think I prefer Hardball, there’s conflict on there, Olbermann has no conflict/opposing viewpoints. I agree with everything he says but hearing my own thoughts parroted back at me has limited appeal. But I’d REALLY like to see any quote where Olbermann claims to be unbiased or attempting some semblance of objectivity. That’s what I love about him, he’s not objective. He editorializes. would love to see a citation on that one, lower case matt.

there are other comments he has made on the radio, about how he isn’t a liberal bt just speaks truth to power and he would do the same to a democratic president blah blah blah. he’s a phony, most tv personalites are, but he takes it up a notch.

Something to say?
