Rudy Giuliani has built a campaign around the myth that he was some kind of hero on 9/11. But it has never been much more than a myth. Now former EPA head Christine Todd Whitman is accusing Rudy of sacrificing the health of 9/11 first responders — and of endangering the lives of EPA workers for the sake of image. The NY Daily News reports:
Former Environmental Protection Agency boss Christie Whitman says she urged Ground Zero workers to wear respirators, but then-Mayor Rudy Giuliani blocked her efforts.
She also said city officials didn’t want EPA workers wearing haz-mat suits because they “didn’t want this image of a city falling apart.”
In an interview scheduled to run the day before Whitman testifies in front of Congress on Monday, she told WNBC-TV she warned the city of the risks almost every day.
And she said she believes illnesses killing first responders can be blamed on the city’s lack of action….
Whitman also criticized Giuliani’s handling of a suspected anthrax attack at NBC’s Rockefeller Center headquarters weeks after 9/11.
“There was concern by the city that EPA workers not be seen in the haz-mat suits,” she said. “They didn’t want this image of a city falling apart. I said, ‘Well, that’s not acceptable.’”
But… he was a hero, right?

the only one who is desperate is you and the liberal filth who choose smears over reality. i see you failed to present any accomplishments of your party’s so called top tier. why? afraid the emptiness of your candidates will be exposed when compared to the vast accomplishments of giuliani? i wonder if any of your candidates will have the courage to attack rudy on his 9/11 record, or if they will let their proxies do it for them. rudy has called all of them out, and they all shiver, afraid to be confronted by a real leader and have their phony pipe dreams exposed.

the village voice link was to a wayne barret article, beeton, who has made his living attack rudy giuliani and his family. propagandist indeed. so if rudy was so terrible that day, why did so many people adore him for his actions? were their eyes decieving them? again, still waiting for any liberal here to list any accomplishment of the democratic top tier that rivals giuliani’s resume. the monday morning quaterbacking about 9/11 is ridiculous. even the liberals at time magazine realized how incredible rudy was during 9/11, yet the activist/loose change crowd will try to continue smearing their way to political victory. and you people complained about the swift boaters? lol what is being done to rudy and his children in the media is the single most disgusting show of bias in political history.
as for whitman, obiviously shes not trying to pass the buck from the EPA to giuliani, because surely no one would ever try to skirt their own responsibility for post 9/11 cleanup. its all rudy, forget that the workers WERE REQUIRED to he didnt place a mask on ever worker’s face, he didnt scoop the chemicals up in his bare hands, he didnt hold up the collapsing buildings on his shoulders, he didnt carry every firefighter to safety, he didnt stop the planes from crashing with his bare hands, yes, its all rudy….he did it , his fault, not like some bin laden guy had anything to do with it….nope in liberlland the jury is still out on bin laden, just ask the 9/11 truth movement…..but rudy….he’s the devil, you people are a joke, and thats why you are going to lose…again
Hey matt, do you get paid by the word? Actually on 9/12/01 i criticized Rudy for building the command post in the WTC and I criticized him for failing to do anything about the fact that the cops had the fireman had different radios. And 6 years later i’m still waiting for a response.
appropriations for equipment is not the mayor’s call, talk to the very liberal city council about why they didnt appropriate funds for better radio. 6 years later and the answer was there for you all the time, try reading something other then the ny times, you may actually learn something.
again, the criticizism for wtc 7 is the worst of all revisitonist theories. if someone can point to a pre-9/11 day when anyone thought the twin towers would topple over, please tell me. the point was, after the 93 bombing, the wtc was a fortress, impervious to the car bomb style attacks people predicted could follow 93. plus nearly every engineer got it wrong about the towers ability to handle a plane crash. the idea was for the command center to be close to where the problems were likely to be. rudy wanted to be close if something bad happened so he could lead and maintain control, and not let things tumble into chaos. you may look down on a leader who heads toward the fire, you may want a hillary who would flee to her bunker, but the majority of this country prefers the former.
besides, the only reason the command center was destroyed was because of the controled demolition, right? just ask the liberal 9/11 truth movement. how was rudy supposed to stop the black ops teams from wiring up his command center. silly lefties, now your conspricacy theories and getting mixed up.
and still…..no one has listed any accomplishments of the ’star studded’ democrat top tier. look we all know they have nothing as impressive as rudy, but im sure they have something to hang their hats on, so please, share with me these oh so amazing feats.
and pete b, if on 9/12 you are saying you were more concerned with rudy and the radios instead of who hijacked the planes and caused the disaster, then im not sure you are qualified to vote for president and should seek psycological treatment.

‘Dozens of activists(liberals) and Sept. 11 rescue workers came to the hearing, and some in the audience hissed(whiney baby catcalls, equal to stamping one’s feet) when Whitman defended former Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s(america’s mayor, future potus) handling of the health concerns.
“I think the city of New York did absolutely everything in its power to do what was right by the citizens of New York,” Whitman said.

you and all the revisionists who try to twist giuliani’s 9/11 record are pathetic. if you felt this way, you should have said it on 9/12/2001, but you didnt. you only try to rewrite history 6 years later. pathetic. utterly, disgustingly, pathetic. the workers were required by the city to wear masks, but rudy cant force them, he cant go around to every worker and strap a mask on his head. and when he did take action to protect their safety by reducing their numbers on the pile, they got angry, and to this day still hold a grudge. and rudy never claimed to be a hero, the people who saw him, who turned to him, who leaned on him after our greatest tragedy thrust that image on him. he didnt name himself person of the year, he didnt knight himself, people saw how he handled it and your smears can NEVER take that away. the left’s unmasked, uncontroled fear of how electable rudy is just keeps the smears coming, attacks on 9/11 and on his family especially ones on his children with the thinking being if they smear him enough then we can elect a coke-head former muslim with no experience president.
