Election Geek notes that yesterday’s speech at Regent University, in which Rudy Giuliani blamed Bill Clinton for not responding forcefully enough to terror attacks prior to 9/11, directly contradicted what America’s Mayor himself was saying just last September. With the campaign in full gear, it seems Rudy has abandoned honest national security analysis in favor of simple propaganda.
Which reminds me of Andrew Sullivan’s (yes, Andrew Sullivan’s) astute commentary (apropos Hugh Hewitt specifically, but GOP war-and-terror-mongers generally) about just how dangerous Republican political strategies are to the national interest:
When you see how evidence-resistant a propagandist like Hewitt can be, you begin to realize how important it is to keep these people away from power. They are much less interested in defeating al Qaeda than they are in using al Qaeda to defeat Democrats. This is what Hewitt really cares about: the GOP. Look what damage his ilk have done to the West’s security since 9/11 because of their pathological partisanship. Look at how their refusal or inability to see any nuance, complexity or variety in the many threats we face makes our defeat more likely. We just cannot afford to tolerate these Republican propagandists any longer. There is a war on. And they simply aren’t serious about fighting it.
Sullivan’s post is titled “The Unseriousness of the ‘Pro-War’ Right.” Now it seems Rudy Giuliani has joined the ranks of the unserious.

Somehow I knew lower case matt was going to come out from under his rock on this one and, boy, did he deliver.
if you or any of your dilluded bloggers can point to giuliani talking about clinton being at fault for 9/11 directly, then please do so.
if not, then please have the post corrected. giulaini did not at any point blame clinton for 9/11, but he did fairly and justly criticize him for several failures during his terms. and since senator clinton insists on riding her husbands coattails, it is perfectly legit to criticize his shortcomings.
you also have yet to correct the christi whitman post, where she came out during the hearing and defended the city in its actions on 9/11.
i know its hard for liberals to have honest discussion and debate, but at least attempt to place some kind of factual basis in these ridiculous posts.
Since Giuliani sees fit to find fault with Clinton’s record on terrorism, I can’t wait to hear what he has to say about the colossal failures of the Bush administration with regard to homeland security.
Although I have a feeling I’ll be waiting for quite a while on that score.
he will, as soon as hillary criticizes her husband for the incredible, and historic failures following the 93 wtc bombing, the embassy bombings in africa, black hawk down, kohbar towers bombing, the refusal of bin laden’s extraditon from sudan, the uss cole attack, and the failure to interpret the daily briefing from 1998 titled ‘bin laden determined to hijack airplanes’, given to clinton 3 years before the intel was recycled in the infamous bush daily briefing.
when hillary talks about them, then maybe rudy should talk about bush dont you think…
Something to say?

wrong. rudy did not contradict anything. he said last september that we should not blame clinton or bush for september 11th, and he did not criticize clinton or blame him for 9/11 but did fault him for the many other instances of failure involving terrorism during his terms.
since hillary clinton is running on her husbands foreign policy successes, giving speeches about kosovo and the very few others, giuliani is well within his right to criticize his more apparent failures i.e. the 93 wtc bombing, the embassy bombings, black hawk down, the khobar towers, the u.s.s. cole, etc.
he made no mention of 9/11, or blame for it. actually, only the DNC blamed anyone for the 9/11 attacks, claiming it was the mayor’s fault for not preparing the city for hijacked planes crashing into buildings. only the DNC, and other liberal media outlets, have taken to attacking 9/11 performances and casting blame. giuliani is responding to the near endless smears on his 9/11 record by pointing to the true failures in our national anti-terrorism policies prior to 9/11.
