Here in New York, it’s rainy and muggy, with nothing like the beautiful blue skies of that terrible day six years ago. Crowds of tourists and commemorators shuffle around downtown, heads down and umbrellas up, amidst the flags and the flashing police lights, and while lately there’s been some debate over whether and when to tone down the anniversary ceremonies, one thing with which nobody would disagree is that you shouldn’t spend 9/11 with someone who has made a meal ticket of smearing the families of the victims.
Nobody but Rudy Giuliani, anyway.
TPM Election Central’s Greg Sargent reports that America’s Mayor will be spending part of the day with Ann Coulter, the grotesque self-parody who has claimed that 9/11 widows were “enjoying their husband’s deaths.” In fact, he may be there right now — at Sean Hannity’s so-called “Freedom Concert,” attended by a who’s-who of right-wing mouth breathers. Rudy will be speaking at the event. Also on the dais will be Coulter.
Here are some of the things Ann Coulter has said about 9/11 widows:
These self-obsessed women seemed genuinely unaware that 9/11 was an attack on our nation and acted as if the terrorist attacks happened only to them.[...]
[T]hey believed the entire country was required to marinate in their exquisite personal agony. Apparently, denouncing Bush was an important part of their closure process.[...]
These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them, reveling in their status as celebrities and stalked by grief-arazzis. I’ve never seen people enjoying their husbands’ deaths so much.
I hope Rudy Giuliani has a good time.
Update: The DNC responds.
“Ann Coulter’s comments are despicable and un-American. If Rudy is going to make 9/11 a cornerstone of his campaign and share the stage with Coulter he should clearly and unequivocally denounce her hateful remarks.”
Amen.

i wonder when the liberals will denounce michael moore, a man who has made hundreds of millions of dollars by exploiting the 9/11 attacks, none of which was donated to the victims families.
this site’s sad pathetic attempt to play gotcha politics all day and night is a nice microcosm of the patheticness of the entire democrat party, as it cow tows to the treasonist moveon.org crowd. no wonder congressional dems are calling you people assholes.
and meeting with coulter is apparently worse, according to the demosocialist crowd on this site, somehow then a democrat candidate meeting with president asad and bashing the president of the united states and the troops in iraq on syrian televison. syria is a state sponsor of terror. nice to know where the democrats stand. but when your rhetoric matches bin laden’s virtually word for word, i guess you will grasp for anything.

Colour me puzzled matt. I recall that in May 2007 Condoleezza Rice met with Syria’s foreign minister, despite the country being a state sponsor of terror.
condoleezza rice is the sec. of state, its her job to meet with foreign leaders and conduct the foreign policy of the commander in chief of the united states. i dont remember condi bashing america on syrian tv either.
conducting a shadow foreign policy and bashing are troops on foreign television is at the very least disgusting and inexcusable for a man seeking the presidency, especially since he also refused to meet with our troops saying they are an illegal occupation force, but assad is all good in his legality book. investigations should begin and charges of treason should be considered.
Something to say?

Hey, ten seconds of editing makes Coulter’s comments sound pretty sensible — thanks Anne!
