Soren Dayton picked up on an interesting facet of the Ron Paul campaign: urging would-be supporters to switch parties and vote Paul in the Republican primaries.
A standard question is “who is actually supporting Ron Paul?” There has been an assumption that the answer is “not Republicans”, but there isn’t always evidence. Then I was reminded of this when a comment was left on a video of Mike Huckabee putting the smack-down on Ron Paul. The recent comment said:
If you support Ron Paul, understand that you MUST REGISTER TO VOTE REPUBLICAN. The cut off in most states is the middle of this month. That is only a couple of days away. It is CRITICAL that if you want Ron Paul to be our next President, you MUST vote for him in the Primaries, and therefore MUST register to vote Republican. To do so and to get this man into the Presidential Election, simply go to gopdotcom and take a few seconds to Register To Vote Republican TODAY. Thank You!
Ron Paul’s campaign website, which is light years ahead of what it used to be, features a handy reminder to non-Republican supporters of the deadlines to switch parties and vote in the Republican primaries.
In 1988, Paul ran as the Libertarian Party’s presidential candidate and continues to maintain high levels of support from the party faithful, including Michael Badnarik, the party’s 2004 candidate.
Related In the largest bastion of libertarianism, New Hampshire, Ron Paul is on the air with radio ads. Obviously, if Paul is going to make any kind of splash in this race, it will be in New Hampshire. I am personally interested in seeing how he performs there, and the conversations that will be sparked on the political talk shows should he perform well.
Green Mountain Politics reports:
We have no idea when he went up, how long he will be up or even if this is news at all.
However, in the last 24 hours we have heard the same Ron Paul radio commercial 5 times. And we don’t listen to much radio.
The ad’s theme: taxes, government spending, health care and Paul’s career as an OB/GYN. It is a campaign ad as Ron Paul voices the disclaimer at the end.

Ron Paul’s message of freedom appeals to many people from all walks of life.
I believe the false left/right paradigm is becoming obvious to many.
Many are tired of the fake “war on terror” and are concerned that our constitutional rights are disappearing.
Ron Paul is talking about these and other politicians would like to ignore them.
Guess what, if you’re registered Republican and you vote for a Republican: THAT MAKES YOU A REPUBLICAN.
Republicans should be PROUD that they have a candidate so good that people are willing to switch parties to vote for him.
Whats the difference between someone that joins the party because they like Fred Thompson? Would you discrimate against that person or welcome them?
People joining the party is a good thing. Face it, you just don’t like Ron Paul.
Republican or Democrat who cares.
I want a citizen who will uphold the constitution in the white house plain and simple.
The left right paradigm is just that, the same corporate money is behind both parties.
As far as I know Ron Paul is the only candidate for president that does not accept donations from corporations.
He’s also one of the only (the only?) congressman who actually wants a chance to read the bills he votes for in Congress and he has introduced legislation to that effect to prevent multi-trillion dollar (6.3 trillion?) budgets from being introduced at midnight and voted on at 4 in the morning (no person who voted on that bill read it, to do so would be simply impossible the bill was almost certainly well over 1000 pages with hundreds if not thousands of references to other thousand page bills).
Anyway enough ranting.
Rest assured the support for Ron Paul is real despite the results of certain polls (which I heard do not even mention his name when they poll people).
I heard something about the internet support for Ron Paul being faked. I doubt this as I know how I feel and I know millions of others are fed up like I am and are voicing their discontent through the last vestige of free speech left in this country.
It’s the ever-volatile weed vote. with Kucinich not getting any headway, Paul becomes the choice in the Primaries.
Looked at around 1,000 Myspace pages browsing for “Wisconsin 420″, Wisconsin ganja”, etc, in the course of promoting our hempfest in Madison. Saw more PAUL icons than all other Prez candidates put together. GRAVEL 2nd.
I’ve been a registered Republican since I was 18 (37 now) I generally vote Republican -(OK I admit it – I did vote for a Democrat ONCE – but it was in Kansas and well we know a lot of Dems. in Kansas are more conservative then Rudy or Mitt) Either way Ron Paul has my vote. I just started to look for a candidate a few weeks ago … No one else addresses border security, freedom, gun security or Taxes like Dr. Paul… Oh and he’s not a liar on these issues. As President he will do as the constitution dictates. Not sure about what other Republicans think but Ron Paul is the Real Republican. And I welcome anyone that can help vote for Ron Paul in the Primaries and help save the Republican Party from utter insanity.
I like the part of the Constitution that lays out rules for Shrimp marketing.

[W.S.J:
Texas Congressman Ron Paul -- libertarian gadfly and current Republican Presidential hopeful -- has made a name for himself as a critic of overspending. But it seems even he can't resist the political allure of earmarks.
After reporters started asking questions, the Congressman disclosed his requests this year for about $400 million worth of federal funding for no fewer than 65 earmarks. They include such urgent national wartime priorities as an $8 million request for the marketing of wild American shrimp and $2.3 million to fund shrimp-fishing research.
When we called Mr. Paul's office for an explanation, his spokesperson offered up something worthy of pork legends Tom DeLay or Senator Robert C. Byrd: "Reducing earmarks does not reduce government spending, and it does not prohibit spending upon those things that are earmarked," the spokesman said. "What people who push earmark reform are doing is they are particularly misleading the public -- and I have to presume it's not by accident."
On the other hand, good libertarians should want to start cutting somewhere. The problem with earmarking is that each year the habit grows by leaps and bounds so that it now represents real money. It is also a gateway to political corruption -- a la Duke Cunningham, and other Congressmen currently under investigation for trading favors for earmarks.
Mr. Paul is one of Congress's better fiscal conservatives. So the fact that even he feels obliged to grab multiple earmarks is all the more reason to keep fighting for transparency in the earmark process, as well as for the line-item veto, which would give Presidents a chance to impose some spending discipline from outside Congress.]
Ron Paul: Principle.
Something to say?

Paul is going after unregistered independents and 3rd party members, not Democrats. That much is kind of obvious.
