Tony Perkins, head of the Family Research Council, told The Hill newspaper that former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani supports a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.
Perkins said Giuliani told him in a private meeting that if the Defense of Marriage Act appeared to be failing or if multiple states began to legalize same-sex marriages, then he would support the constitutional amendment.
Giuliani didn’t win over Perkins, or fellow Christian conservative Gary Bauer, either.
“To come into a crowd like this and not mention marriage was, I think, a colossal mistake,” Bauer said.
Read Giuliani’s full remarks from the Family Research Council’s Value Voters Summit.
But Giuliani’s private admission to Perkins is a significant flip-flop on the gay marriage issue. In August 2001, then-Mayor Giuliani said he would personally marry his gay roommates that he briefly stayed with while his marriage was on the rocks.
The mayor’s progressive record on gay civil rights notwithstanding, he has not endorsed same-sex marriage. But, says Mr. Koeppel, ”He did tell us that if they ever legalized gay marriages, we would be the first one he would do.” Mr. Koeppel and Mr. Hsiao are in favor of the right to marry — which, among other things, would give gay couples the same protections as heterosexual couples in legal and fiscal matters ranging from immigration and adoption rights to veterans’ and Social Security benefits. In Giuliani’s defense, that was before 9/11 and we all know, 9/11 changed everything.

‘Rudy in 2001 reportedly said if gay marriage was legal, he would marry his two gay roommates first.’
your whole assumption is based on hearsay, you don’t know what was actually said between the two parties, if it was in jest, if it was even said at all. putting ‘reportedly’ infront of an allegation doesn’t make it true orteeega. just more lousey reporting for another failed smear attempt.
what myth? i’ve brought up vince foster in the context of the scandals he and the clintons were involved, not the alledged murder cover up.
and if you have any hard evidence proving giuliani said what you claim he said and the context in which he said it i would love to hear it orteeega.
Something to say?

‘ he has not endorsed same-sex marriage ‘
your own post disproves your smear attempt.
