There’s a push going on, lead by Markos Moulitsas and echoed by many around the liberal blogosphere, to encourage Michigan’s Democratic voters to vote for Mitt Romney in the Republican primary. The logic is basically that since Democrats aren’t having a contested primary and since Michigan holds an open primary, the best thing for Democrats is to have Romney remain in the race following a Michigan win. Romney has made clear that Michigan is a crucial state for him and a loss could bring him close to dropping out.

Some right wing putz has two problems with Dems in Michigan and is filing suit to try to stop Markos’ efforts. Here are his problems: he doesn’t like Markos encouraging Democrats to vote in the GOP primary (his argument hinges on a misuse of the term “voter fraud”) and he doesn’t know how the meaning of “open primary.” Adam B at Daily Kos takes him down in thorough and hilarious fashion.

I’m posting a poll in the sidebar to get people’s thoughts on Dems working to give Romney a victory in Michigan. I think the effort is pretty funny and continued turmoil in the GOP field is a good thing.

on top of ku klux hillary’s racism, her supression of votes in nevada, and now this unethical attempt to skew the GOP effort just sums up what it means to be a democrat these days.

its not a good sign for liberals when tactics like these are needed to try and beat mccain it what is supposed to be a democrat year. afraid? afraid that america will choose a brave war hero with honesty and integrity over a polarizing witch or a coked up novice? you should be. in the end all mccain will have to do is stand next to ku klux hillary and look into the camera and say ‘who do you trust’? its hard to see anyone reasonable person with any dignity choosing the clinton klux klan over the noble american hero.

btw, anyone notcie hillary has replaced her lawn signs with burning crosses??? hmmmm….

Wait, since when does Lower Case Matt support McCain? I thought you were a 9ui11ani fanboy.

In any regard, this isn’t about stopping McCain. It’s about prolonging a hilarious Republican primary and continuing to divide the GOP vote. I think you’re right – McCain is probably going to be the GOP nominee. But encouraging the citizens of Michigan to vote for Mitt Romney is not unethical and anyone who suggests that it is clearly does not have the faintest inclination about what the term “unethical” means or how the democratic process works.

Something to say?
