Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn endorsed John McCain’s campaign for president today. In case you aren’t familiar with Tom Coburn and the relationship he has with John McCain, here are a couple of golden nuggets:

1) When reporters stumped McCain last March on the question of whether condoms can help stop the spread of HIV (yes, you read that right), McCain sat silent for a long time, and then told his aid to get him Senator Tom Coburn’s paper on the subject, which he would rely on for a suitable answer.

2) Tom Coburn, expert on all things contraceptive, is a former obstetrician-gynecologist, who has some pretty insane views, such as (and note, I’m getting these views from a press release on his actual campaign website)

a) He favors the death penalty for doctors who performed abortions.

b) He is is against performing abortions even in cases of rape because, “‘Under the mores we live under today, my lineage wouldn’t exist,’ Coburn said, explaining that his great-grandmother was raped by a territorial sheriff.

The distinguished members of the press, when they aren’t busy being enamored by the distinguished Senator from Arizona on his distinguished Straight Talk Express bus, might want to ask him about what he thinks of his distinguished buddy Tom Coburn’s downright psychotic views.
